Farmers from Northern Uganda Region who are endowed with excess pastures but lack milk cows have entered a deal with their counterparts from Central Region who have heifers but lack pastures. The parties agreed to supply hay in exchange for heifers. Trucks are expected to be ferrying hay from Northern Uganda and go back with heifers from fellow farmers. Facilitating this, Centenary Bank which has had limited activities for farmers in Northern Region advised farmers to take advertange of the agriculture financing they are offering. So far, Centenary Bank is the only Bank that has come up to finance small holder dairy farmers including those with dairy goats. Security ranges from goats, cows themselves to other value items. Next Stakeholders Platform will be held in May, 2009 in Kampala |
