    • Registering and licensing all stakeholders who trade in milk, milk products and dairy equipment which include dairy importers, dairy processors, raw milk traders with coolers/freezers, milk transporters, dealers in dairy equipment and additives countrywide to ensure that all traders in dairy sector comply with dairy regulations and quality standards.

    Services offered by the Dairy Development Department

    • Training of dairy farmers on aspects of good animal husbandry practices, hygienic milk production, business skills, record keeping and value addition through conducting needs based trainings and practical on farm demonstrations to increase milk production and productivity.
    • Coaching, mentoring and encouraging smallholder dairy farmers to form dairy marketing groups to increase their marketed supply of milk and market accessibility. Empowering smallholder dairy farmer groups to negotiate for good prices for their milk with the buyers.
    • Conducting promotional campaigns to increase local consumption and export of milk and milk products. Promoting marketing of dairy products through product development and value addition.
    • Pooling, processing, interpreting and disseminating dairy production, marketing information that guides dairy sector stakeholders in decision-making processes for strategic interventions and guiding policy formulation.
    • Engaging in networking and negotiation activities geared towards expanding dairy markets and encouraging investment in the dairy sector.
    • Acting as an arbitrator in conflicts arising among dairy stakeholders.
